Japanese guitarist MIYAVI kicked off his “DAY 2” World Tour 2018 at the Liquidroom in Tokyo on Monday (Mar. 5).
He performed a string of hits in front of a sold-out crowd, including “Flashback,” the theme song of the ongoing anime series Kokkoku, and “Dancing With My Fingers,” his recent collaboration with Daichi Miura. He also performed a cover of “Pink Spider” by the rock guitarist hide of X Japan. MIYAVI told the audience that he respected and was influenced by the late icon, “a Japanese artist who opened many great avenues.” He closed the set with one of his most well-known hits, “What’s My Name 2017” for the encore.
For his seventh world tour he’ll hit several Asian cities after the opening domestic leg and go on to play in Europe and North America before finishing at the Irving Plaza in New York City on May 20.
MIYAVI celebrated his 15th anniversary since his debut in 2017 and kept himself busy throughout the year. While performing a slew of concerts both domestically and abroad, he released a greatest hits album ALL TIME BEST “DAY 2” in April and a collaborative studio album Samurai Sessions vol. 2 in November. He also became the first Japanese person to be appointed as the official Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR after volunteering for the UN refugee program for years. In January he made his runway debut in Paris for the Yohji Yamamoto 2018-19 Fall/Winter menswear collection.
